After explaining one side of the story about the ongoing controversy through the video, Sonu Nigam visited social media on Monday, May 05, 2025 to further justify his remarks, which won him against the people of Karnataka. The popular play singer was lashed out on social media after she rejected fans’ demand to sing Kannada songs at a concert in Virgonagar, Bangalore.
Sonu Nigam wrote: “I am not a young lad, humiliated from anyone.” He further wrote: “I am 51 years old and in the second half of my year, the right to offend people as young as my son, directly threaten me in the name of language, this is my second language, this is my second in my work, this is my second song, and so after my first song!
In his performance, Sonu responded to the request, saying he did not like the tone of the people in the crowd and compared the incident with the recent Pahalgam terrorist attacks in Jamu and Kashmir. The terrorist attack the singer mentioned irritated Kannadigas, leading to a case scheduled by a professional Kannada costume for him because he was “inciting language hatred.”
Sonu elaborated on his Pahalgam reference, saying: “I am a patriot and I hate anyone who tries to create hatred in the name of language, caste or religion, especially after what happened in Pahalgam. I had to go to school from them, I did, I did, and thousands of students and teachers cheered me for it.”
Sonu stressed that he has a great respect for the people in Kannada and Karnataka, “I respect Kannada’s songs more than in other languages, including other languages.
Professional Kannada's outfit has booked the case as “inciting language hatred.” Police have issued notices to the singers to appear before them for interrogation. Opening up on the case, Sonu said, “I leave it upto the sensible people of Karnataka to decide who is at fault here. I will accept your verdict gracefully. I fully respect and trust the law agencies and Police of Karnataka and will comply with whatever is expected from me. I have received divine love from Karnataka and will cherish it always with no malice whatsoever irrespective of your verdict.”
