A 12-year-old boy drowned while swimming in Perial on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Dulkibin, son of Mangadan Shinas of Mekalady. The accident occurred in Laksham Veedu Ghat.
Four children, including Shinas' three children and his brother's children, have ventured into the Kottamam canal, leading to Perial at around 4:30 p.m., where they are reportedly trapped in an undercurrent.
Shinas's two children and his brother's children were rescued by their mother and local residents. Dulkibin was swept away by undercurrents and his body was found by fire and rescue service personnel and residents around 7.15 p.m. Shinas works in Kannur, where the family lives. It said they came to Mecaladi for the summer vacation.
