BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan led the protests in the city of Coimbatore condemning the Pahalgam attack, rising threats to extremism, the state’s response to illegal immigration and the significant concern of the Tamil Nadu government’s inaction on these issues.
During the protests, Ms. Srinivasan pointed out that Coimbatore was the target of extremist violence, including the continuous explosions in 1998 and the car bomb explosion in 2022. “Coimbatore is facing repeated attacks from religious extremists. We cannot afford silence or inaction,” she said, highlighting how BJP workers continue to work despite threats to their lives, while other parties withdraw. She further emphasized that only the BJP and RSS have organizations that are different from their political counterparts willing to sacrifice for the security of the country.
She also criticized the Tamil Nadu government’s approach to national security. “If people understand why the BJP and RSS are in Tamil Nadu's goal, then people can understand how terrorism works,” she said, defending Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign policy, which she said was intended to isolate Pakistan-backed terrorism globally.
Ms. Srinivasan questioned the inadequate movement of illegal immigrants living in Coimbatore and nearby areas in subsequent press conferences. She claimed that foreign nationals, especially foreign nationals from Pakistan, reside in Thudiyalur and Thondamuthur in the name of migrant workers. She condemned the Tamil Nadu government for failing to take action, noting that there is no police-led enumeration or verification of its identity.
Ms. Srinivasan also raised concerns about the Coimbatore car bombing, noting that Tamil Nadu police have not released any investigation updates, despite the NIA filing four charges. She expressed disappointment at the lack of transparency and accountability and called on the state to take immediate action.
Ms. Srinivasan also attacked the ruling DMK, allegedly ignoring national security. She claims DMK prioritizes voting banking politics over national well-being.
