India has agreed to put its tariffs on nothing: President Trump

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that India has agreed to “give up its high tariffs “without” “there is nothing” to give up. “I mean, India is one of the highest tariffs in the world. We won't stand this, they have agreed to have put it down. They discarded it. Trump and visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney talked with reporters while meeting in the Oval Office to discuss trade in the United States and Canada.
He added: “So we're going to put down some of the numbers, we're going to say our country is open to business, they're going to come in, they're going to pay for the privilege of being able to shop in the United States of America. It's simple. It's simple.”
In the past, Trump called India the “tariff king” and the “great abuser”.

Last month, Trump said that negotiations with India on a bilateral trade agreement “has come true” and he believes “we will reach an agreement with India.”
