Assam Panchayat poll: 9.7% turnout in two hours as 13 regions vote in phase 2

“The turnout of 9.7% was recorded in the first two hours as 13 districts in Assam voted in the second phase of Wednesday (May 7, 2025),” officials said.
The poll began at 7.30 am in Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Bajali, Bajali, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, Morigaon and Darrang areas.
A total of 91,31,127 people, including 44,99,952 women, are eligible to vote at this stage. At this stage, a total of 29,608 candidates were in the competition. The Dharan region has the highest turnout at 13%, while the lowest turnout at Nagaaon is 4.34%.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged people to exercise the franchise, saying in an article on X: “Since the second phase of #AssampanChayPolls takes place today, I urge every eligible voter to vote in large numbers and become part of the Grassroots Democracy Festival.” The vote will continue until 4.30 pm.
