Basting damaged houses, vehicles and public infrastructure are spread throughout Balakote, Mendhar, Mankote, Krishna Ghati, Gulpur, Kerni and part of the Poonch District headquarters. Mortar shells hit Mendhar's bus stall. The Kupwara and Baramulla areas (including five children) and Rajouri (three civilians) reportedly reported injuries. Due to the intensity of the shelling, the house caught fire in the Karna department.
Panic in border villages
“Suddenly, fire broke out from across the border. It was a bad night for people here,” said Abdul Husain, a resident of the border village. He pointed to unfinished bunkers. “30% of the bunkers promised by the government are fully constructed, while the rest are not.”
“In the early hours of the morning, the shelling happened. Our house was completely damaged. I don't know where we are going now,” said a woman who was injured in the attack.
Villagers rushed to underground shelters or fled to safer places as local authorities evacuated the injured. Srinagar Airport is temporarily closed for preventive measures.
Operation Sindoor aims at Pak's horror foundation
The Indian Armed Forces confirmed that earlier on May 7, it under Operation Sindor conducted a targeted missile strike in Pakistan, attacking nine terrorists and Poyk, including Bahawalpur, a known base for Jaish-e-Mohammed.
According to the official statement, the targets include camps at Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-E-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen.
“Pakistan again violated the ceasefire agreement of artillery in Bhimber Gali in Poonch-Rajauri region. Indian troops responded appropriately in a calibrated manner,” X.
This is the 13th consecutive night of ceasefire violation since April 24, with India suspending the Indian Waters Treaty following the Pahargam attack.
Schools are closed, exams are postponed
In response, Ramesh Kumar, department commissioner of Chamu, announced: “In view of the current situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Chamu, Samba, Saba, Katua, Rajuri and Pornchi will remain closed today.”
Kashmir University postponed all exams scheduled for the day.
According to reports, Mankote, Krishna Ghati and Rajouri poonch, laam and manjakote Shahpur, as well as Karnah and Uri departments in North Kashmir. There was also an explosion in Panthiyal in the Lamban area, although the cause remains unknown.
Ceasefire violations along the LIC and IB are rare since India and Pakistan reiterated their 2003 ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021. This calm seemed to have collapsed.
Initially, shells were confined to the Kashmir and Baramulla areas of North Kashmir, and are now spread throughout the location – from Poonch to the Pargwal departments of Akhnoor, Sunderbani, Naushera, Naushera and Jammu.
As violence expands, fears of a wider confrontation between nuclear-weapon neighbors are growing.
Indian security forces remained on high alert and fire continued at the last report.
