Russia adds 2,000 medical seats for Indian students: Consul General Valerii Khodzhaev

Chennai: Valerii Khodzhaev, Consul General of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation, added nearly 2,000 seats to accommodate students who are increasingly keen on offering medical courses in Russian universities.

At an event here, he said Russia remains the first choice for Indian students seeking medical education abroad, and Russian universities have a long reputation for providing high-quality medical education worldwide.

He said that as Indian students attend medical courses increase each year, the number of seats in Russia has increased from 2024 to 10,000.

The increase in seats reflects the growing demand for medical education in Russia, which is currently the only one that fully complies with the latest overseas medical education norms of the National Medical Council of India.

“In the past 60 years, students in India have been admitted to Russian universities. Russia remains the first choice for Indian students seeking medical education abroad. Every year, thousands of Indian students travel to Russia to seek prestigious, globally recognized and affordable education.”

He added: “With a comprehensive curriculum, experienced teachers and advanced facilities, Russian universities provide a strong learning environment for Indian students.”

“As in the past, the Russian government's annual 100% scholarship program will also grant grants to 200 Indian students this year. This will allow them to obtain bachelor's degree, master's, experts, experts and graduate programs for free at major Russian universities,” said Alexander Dodonov, deputy consul and director of the Russian House of Representatives.

The All-India Russian Education Expo for the 2025-26 academic year is scheduled to be held at the Russian Science and Culture Center in the city on May 10 and 11. Similar events are planned in Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchirappalli.

The fair will also feature participation from science, technology and engineering institutions that offer programs in cutting-edge areas such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence and data science.

The institution is expected to participate in the expo.
