The masked teenage thief, 16 and 17, left behind her 82-year-old great-grandmother, lying on the floor of her house, crying for the “mummy” after a ruthless robbery – She died two days later

Two masked teenagers have been locked in a youth detention center for two years after robbing a great-grandmother at their home and staying alone for hours as she was injured on the floor and shouting for the “mummy.”
Joy Middleditch, 82, died a few days after being severely injured in her bungalow by Pakefield in Suffolk, and her family was left on the floor for 12 hours after being stolen and robbed.
She was conscious and breathing but found five ribs and bruises after her death at James Padgett Hospital in Great Yarmouth on March 27, 2023.
After the incident, it was discovered that her handbag (including a wallet) had been removed from her bungalow.
The boys (now 17 and 16) were sentenced to two years in the Youth Detention Center by District Court Judge Kenneth Sheraton today.
“I’ve been sitting in the court for many years and I don’t hesitate to say that this is one of the most annoying cases I’ve ever seen,” he said.
Judge:’Two boys will see the moving frame in the back door and both boys will realize it is an old lady.
“ Both boys knew that she had limited mobility and that her son and daughter were unable to get a reply on the phone about 12 hours later, leaving her on the floor.

Her family said she was “more than just a victim of cruel, unconscious criminals”

Ms Middleditch was conscious and breathing but found five ribs and bruises before her death at James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth in March 2023
In addition to a two-year custody sentence, the two were ordered to pay a court fee of £41.
Everyone was convicted of burglary.
Ms. Middleditch was on “Appointment to Mother” on March 25, 2023 during a trial in Great Yarmouth District Court last month.
She yelled as they left her on the floor, asking her to leave the house until she was discovered by the caring family.
Prosecutor Hanna Llewelyn-Waters said the two men, who could not be named for legal reasons, wore “threatening masks” to “instill fear into the victims.
She argued that the two defendants, who were 14 and 15, were “action together” and “planned” the robbery, calling the boy’s evidence “nonsense.”
The boy refused to provide evidence because Ms. Lauvilin Waters said: “He did not state that this was going to be reviewed.”
Ms. Llewelyn-Waters quoted text messages after the robbery, and the young defendant texted his girlfriend that he needed to “get rid of his clothes.”

The court was told he also learned that after Ms. Middleditch passed away, he also texted his girlfriend saying he would “will see her in 20 years” and that he “will get rid of his phone.”
Prosecutors listed the moments they entered behind Ms. Middleditch’s property, and they may have turned on the car alert on Foxglove Close as CCTV captured them at the moment they were sending it out.
Shortly afterwards, Ms Llewelyn-Waters said the boys then took “key lines” to Grayson Avenue, where Mrs Middleditch lives.
The court heard how the two stopped at 10 Grayson Avenue and missed many homes there.
She said it was “unthinkable,” considering the house they passed by and where they stopped.
When they arrived at home they paused for about a minute and then tried the gate to the back of the property before climbing through it.
During the trial, District Judge Kenneth Sheraton listened to evidence from the older defendant, who claimed he “just followed his friend.”
Excerpt from a police interview when he was arrested said: “I followed him what he was doing when he opened it and went in.

Police were seen searching for clues at Ms. Middleditch’s home, who suffered serious injuries when two masked invaders broke into her Parkfield home in Suffolk.

After police saw the incident, Pakefied, Suffolk, searched nearby roads and Ms Middleditch was said to have yelled “get out of my home” and “mummy”

The judge who presided over the case said the incident took place in Pakefield, Suffolk, and was “one of the most annoying cases I’ve ever seen.”
“He opened the door and there was a dog roaring. That was just a small matter, so he ran in.
“She was inside and he pushed her onto the table. Then he grabbed her schoolbag and ran back. I closed the door and followed him.
“She was screaming, “Leave my home” and “Mummy.” ‘
The 17-year-old defendant added that the victim asked him to close the door because she did not want her dog to run away.
The older boy went to his friend’s house in the early morning and was “smashed to death” and the boy shared a splift before “taking a walk”.
The court heard that when they arrived at Ms. Middleditch’s home later that morning, the boys walked nearly two miles.
The mother of both boys cried when the verdict was announced.
The older defendant asked him if he could say goodbye to his mother, but his request was denied.
After seeing the boy committing robbery at the hearing in April, Ms Middleditch’s family issued a statement saying: “The people affected by this network are not only ending with us.
Joey is a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister to several siblings, an aunt and close friend to many.
“Her worth is more than just being a victim of cruel, unconscious criminals.”
