The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that the southwest monsoon may arrive in Kerala on May 27.
According to IMD data, if the monsoon reaches Kerala, this will be the earliest attack on mainland India since it began on May 23, 2009.
Typically, the southwest monsoon begins Kerala before June 1 and covers the entire country on July 8. It retreated from northwestern India around September 17, completely withdrawing on October 15.

IMD predicted cumulative rainfall in 2025 over the monsoon season in April, excluding the possibility of El Nino conditions, which is related to lower than normal rainfall in the Indian subcontinent.
“India may see the above normal rainfall during the four-month monsoon season (June to September), with a cumulative rainfall estimated at 87 cm long-term average of 105% (model error of 5%),” said Mavicandran, secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
