As Pakistan continues major artillery shootings throughout the control line in Jamu and Kashmir, various regional governments have issued guidelines for residents to stay safe during the shelling.

Pakistani forces have caused several ceasefires along the control line since Operation Sindor began on 7 May 2025. Five people, including a senior J&K government official and a two-year-old girl, were killed by mortar shelling and drone strikes hit by Pakistan

Therefore, Deputy Commissioner Poonch and the Kathua Regional Government have issued the following guidelines for people living near the border.

Key security steps in the shelling process, especially in border areas:
Move to the bottom layer:

Stay at the bottom to reduce exposure to direct hits. The upper layer is more fragile.

Use sandbags or soil bags:

Place sandbags or soil-filled bags on the roof (especially single-story houses) and test for a long time to absorb the effects of shell debris and reduce damage.

Avoid doors and windows

Stay away from glass windows and doors causing increasing damage from broken glass.

Turn off gases and appliances

Prevent fire hazards by turning off cooking gas, heaters and unnecessary electrical applications

Lying with the veil

If caught outside, lie in a low speed area and protect your head with your arms or a solid operation

Prepare an emergency kit

Includes first aid, water, dry food, flash, battery-powered radio and important documents.

Follow official instructions

Listen to local authorities or radio/TV announcements for updates and evacuation orders.
