The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has separated Rs 9 crore to develop open space on land owned by various local agencies in Ernakulam.
Under this, each shortlisted local institution will receive Rs 1 crore. The chairmen, secretary and other key officials of various local agencies participated in the preparatory meetings held in this regard. According to the release of GCDA, Aluva, Angamaly, Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, Thripunithura, Maradu, Eloor, North Paravur and Perumbavoor Muncipalities have been selected in the first phase of the project.
Such a well-developed open space will help families and others relax, especially at night, and will also come in handy for public meetings. It said: “The aim is to prepare open spaces and parks, just like the Subhash park in the city, and like in Changampuzha Park in Edappally, they enjoy good footsteps. Open public places like this will encourage people to mix.”
The release added that with Kochi’s population growing and municipalities developing, it is necessary to prepare well-designed open spaces for residents.
