Sharma is a shabby batsman, widely regarded as a great modern one

Rohit Sharma’s sudden retirement from Test cricket shocked Indian fans, without the captain and most experienced openers in England, the key five Test series was just weeks ago.

India has never won test rubber in England since 2007. Losing the captain, the most experienced opening hit will force a rethinking of the tour’s choice strategy.

Sharma is a charismatic leader and batsman, widely regarded as a modern greatness.

His statistics in Test Cricket – running 4,301 times in 67 games, an average of 40.57 games is not strong.

But the premise of strength and authority, tactical acumen and leadership he demonstrated was to earn his admiration and respect throughout the world of cricket.

Sharma’s decision to announce his retirement from Test cricket through a soft Instagram post has sparked widespread speculation. Although various factors may have influenced his choice, the long-term downturn in his test form seems to be the main catalyst.

In his last six tests – three against New Zealand, three against Australia’s decline – Sharma was in a bad shape. He can call 122 trivial matches in 10 innings of these games.

To make the problem more complicated, India lost all these tests. In the subsequent border-Border-Gavaskar series, Sharma was painted 3-0 by New Zealand as unprecedented in Indian cricket – putting Sharma under severe scrutiny. He took a commendable, but extreme step, throwing himself out of XI’s match to compete in Sydney’s final Test.

Since then, India has won the ODI championship trophy and Sharma is in an impressive state.

The first few weeks of the ongoing IPL were disappointing, but Sharma rediscovered his touch, playing an important knock on the door, causing his Mumbai Indians to run strongly for the knockout round. However, the success of white ball cricket is not necessarily a replication of similar forms of index in red ball cricket.

Sharma is 38 years old. His recent test form has been unhappy. The next world test championship cycle will take two years to complete. Does he have physical body, psychological bandwidth, motivation and magic to continue playing test cricket? He may have asked himself questions before he quit.

Sharma was the first of a group of talented batsmen to emerge from the pipeline under the age of 19 in the first decade of the century.

The others are Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. The four will take over India’s batting responsibility, from Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Saurav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag.

Ironically, Sharma was the last in the quartet to play Test cricket despite his first Indian block against Ireland’s Audi (ODI) in 2007.

He is a member of the MS Dhoni team, which won the T20 World Cup in 2007, but a test venue was relatively easy to get away against Kohli, Pujara, Dhawan and Rahane until the 2013 Tendulkar farewell series.

Sharma’s skills often improve the batting skills to an art form

Sharma created 177 when it debuted in Eden Gardens.

Ravi Shastri, who later made a huge impact on his exam career by giving him an opener, compared him to a “Swiss Watch” for the precise timing in his stroke. Former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar found him for India, highlighting his ability to play late, which helps to judge the length of the ball faster, and also allows improvisation.

Since Sharma was a test player, Sharma’s hitting showed the style and skills of VVS Laxman and Mark Waugh.

Sharma’s batsmen weaned on “Mumbai School” and their batting has examples of orthodox techniques such as Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, bringing pressure.

But when adventure becomes the basis for hitting every format, growing up in a postmodern environment, the Sharma moves to higher gears, usually getting faster from the start from the start of the test.

He did not show Sehwag’s courage, but he often showed the destructive ability of Viv Richards when fully flowed, especially when playing level bat shooting, such as hooking, pulling and cutting.

Sharma scored 40,302 in 67 Test matches, with an average hover of 40 times

Until 2019, when then-head coaches Ravi Shastri and Captain Virat Kohli coaxed him to open the inning, Sharma’s career in red ball cricket was thriving.

By this time, he had smashed three ODI Twin Centuries (in addition to scoring a series of match-winning points in the T20) to establish him as the giant of white cricket.

When Sharma became the captain of India in 2021, he set his sights on a group of ICC trophys and reshapes the team’s game strategy for each format accordingly.

A friendly entertaining bearing, marked by lovely dirt, helped him easily and strongly connect with the players. But he did not slack or slack on the court. He is keen, keen, intuitive when reading the game situation and is especially outstanding in handling bowling.

The five IPL titles of the Mumbai Indian customized his leadership certificate even before he got a job for the national team.

Under Sharma, India reached the World Exam Championship final in 2023 but lost to Australia.

At the ODI World Cup that same year, he hits the field as the opener and his “full offense” strategy, in which the batsmen will enter after running without mercy, bringing India to the finals, their dreams are broken by the inspired Australian side. Winning the T20 World Cup a few months later, it was some compensation, but not a complete redemption.

Sharma, who withdrew from T20 cricket after winning the World Cup last year, has not yet retired from ODI cricket.

He has not been part of the ODI World Cup champion team since 2011, when he was not selected as the team to bring Indian glory 28 years later under Dhoni.

He said in an interview released by PodCaster Vimal Kumar in a few days he said he hopes to be part of the ODI World Cup champion team and is still alive.

The next ODI World Cup is in 2027. Whether Sharma can maintain fitness and formation within two years will be of interest from the cricket community.

But this is hardly a focus for Indian selectors. Currently, they are worried about finding an opener and captain, stepping into Sharma’s big boots.
