Uttar Pradesh Eyes 63,000 crore GST revenue for fiscal 26

National Minister Nitin Agarwal said Uttar Pradesh’s goal is to increase the state’s consumption tax revenue to Rs 63,000 crore.He said of ET that nearly 20% of revenue in fiscal 2024-25 is attributed to UP’s new electronics policy for distribution of retail liquor stores. Agarwal also said the state is conducting a premium for its liquor business, with more manufacturing plants expected to be built with an investment of about Rs 79 billion.

According to official data, the state has granted 19 licenses to set up distilleries and operate micro-distilleries from 2022-23.

“At UP Invest Portal, 46 projects are ready for a breakdown ceremony, which is expected to be invested in Rs 78,888 crore in the state,” Agarwal said.
Responding to questions about UP’s new lottery regime and about the monopoly of the liquor industry, he said: “The state is taking all the necessary steps to eliminate the monopoly since 2018…most retail stores have settled through electronic currency.” Agarwal stressed that the new policy will allow anyone to hold a license to two retail stores across the state. In his recent award of renewal of retail stores for fiscal 2026-27, he said: “The right to finalize is to be accompanied by the government.”
