CCB finds drug vendors they arrested last year are still in jail

Detectives from the Central Crime Department discovered while detecting drug trafficking rings in the city that a 32-year-old Kerala man arrested in the drug case continued to operate from the central prison by phone inside the central prison complex.

This once again raises security issues in prison complexes. Despite the most advanced distractors, how prisoners use their cell phones, this is a question that has been plagued by prisons for nearly a year. He reportedly managed to destroy his cell phone during a prison raid on the defendant.

According to the findings, CCB officials recently seized Rs 8.7 lakh, part of the proceeds of crime in different bank accounts under the court order under the Smugglers and Forex Trading Institutions (Property Confiscation) Act.

According to police, the accused Amir Khan was arrested by CCB officials in Amruthahalli in November 2024, from which the police recovered MDMA crystals worth Rs 71 lakh. The defendant was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Drugs Act of 1985 and was remanded in judicial custody and boarded in the Central Prison.

But when the CCB recently unearthed another drug racket and arrested a hawker, he reportedly admitted that he was serving drugs on behalf of Amir Khan, who operated from the prison. Further investigation revealed that the defendant used to obtain instructions on WhatsApp from Amir Khan and would provide drugs to consumers through the “drop location” method.

Based on this information, officials obtained a warrant for the body and detained Amir Khan, indicating that money from the drug deal has been transferred to a bank account belonging to his relatives. The accounts have been tracked and the money has been confiscated.

CCB officials assisted the SAFEM (FOP) Act of 1976 and the NDPS Act of 1985 to seize proceeds of crime. Sources said the defendant challenged the CCB but was rejected by the court.
