Will the bank be closed due to Buddha on May 12? Know here

Banks in multiple Indian states will be closed from May 9 to May 12, 2025 due to regional holidays, Buddha statues and regular weekend breaks.

Due to public holidays and regular weekend breaks, bank clients in many parts of India should end a long weekend from Friday, May 9 to Monday, May 12. This four-day break will affect private and public sector banks in several states.

The prolonged break will begin on Friday, May 9, when banks in West Bengal remain closed to Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti. On Saturday, May 10, the banks were closed nationwide because it was the second Saturday of the month, and it was a day not working under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules. Since then, May 11 (Sunday) is also a bank holiday as a result of regular weekend closures.

The last day of the long rest is Monday, May 12, when banks in 14 states will close Buddha. These countries include Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jamu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Delhi, Delhi, Jharkhand, Jharkhand, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh. Buddha Purnima (also known as vesak or vesak or jayanti) marks the birth anniversary of Lord Gautama Buddha and is a public holiday in many parts of India.

Due to this extended break, it is recommended that clients complete important banking tasks such as withdrawing cash, checking liquidation and transfer of funds to avoid any delays.

Earlier this month, banks remained closed:

May 1: Labor Day (in many states) and Maharashtra Day (in Maharashtra)

May 7: Panchayat elections held in Assam

May 9: Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti in West Bengal

May 16: Sikkim banks to close on Sikkim State Day

May 26: Tripura will observe Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birth anniversary

May 29: Himaal Pradesh to commemorate Maharana Pratap Jayanti

There are five Saturdays in May and banks will be open on May 3, 17 and 31. In addition to closing on May 10, banks will also be closed on May 24 (the fourth Saturday).

To avoid any inconvenience to you, it is highly recommended that customers plan ahead and complete all important banking operations as early as possible.
