IPL interruption: Review of past interruptions in matches

However, this is not the first time that IPL has been interrupted. In its 18-year history, the game has been moved out of the country four times, facing scrutiny of the game and seeing two teams banned. In addition, Lalit Modi, a well-known IPL commissioner, was expelled by the BCCI and banned for life after allegations of corruption and misuse of funds.
Here is a timeline to capture IPL’s rest journey:
- 2008: IPL is launched
- 2009: Moved to South Africa due to Lok Sabha election
- 2010: The then IPL specialist Lalit Modi conducted an investigation and was suspended
- 2012: Kochi’s Ivory ended after one season due to financial problems
- 2013: Allegations about spots and betting surfaces – Three RR players and top CSK officials arrested; BCCI banned Lalit Modi’s life-long charges; The Pune Fighters ended three seasons after economic issues;
- 2014: When the match matches the election, the UAE competed in 20 matches
- 2015: RR and CSK are banned from allegations that prove to be fixed points; Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions replace the 2016 and 2017 seasons
- 2020: Due to restrictions on the UAE
- 2021: The first phase of the period from April to May due to Covid and the conclusion phase was held in the UAE on September 1
- 2025: Paused for a week due to escalating tensions in India-Pak
