“Disgusting” find supermarket shopper lurking at the bottom of her Coles owned brand lemon juice

A woman felt “severely sick” after making a frightening discovery from ordinary kitchen ingredients purchased from Coles.

Naomi noticed something suspicious in the packaging last week, and found a fleshy lump in a Coles brand lime juice bottle last week.

She came to the end of the lime juice and discovered the discovery after feeling something solid in the empty bottle.

Naomi ate frozen grapes with lime juice every night, opened the bottle and found a “disgusting” slime mass.

“I feel severely sick,” Naomi said in a clip shared by Tiktok, calling on her followers to help identify the spots.

“Someone needs to be able to tell me what that is,” she added.

Some questioned whether Naomi had consumed the product before its expiration date, but she said the lemon juice would not expire until December.

The tag does say it should be consumed within six weeks after opening, but Naomi said she did it within two weeks of her first use of it.

One person told Naomi that they had the same problem: “Oh my goodness, I didn’t open our problem, it’s actually the same, the juice is actually very brown.”

Someone agreed: “This happened in the horror of two nights, reached the end of the bottle, and never used lemon juice!!!!!!

Many viewers believe that foreign objects may be a Scoby disc (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts) that have a jelly-like appearance that can be used in kombucha brewing.

However, Scobies usually do not form in lime juice because the high acidity inhibits the growth of bacteria and yeasts they need to form.

Naomi said she will only start buying fresh limes from now on after the “disgusting” discovery.

Coles advises Naomi to send the lime juice bottle and foreign object to them for testing, but reveals that she threw the item away immediately after discovering it.

The supermarket confirmed to Australia Daily Mail that they are transitioning to lemon and lemon juice bottles to transparent bottles.

But they emphasize that the changes are making them easier to recycle and have been in progress for a while, which has nothing to do with Naomi’s discovery.

A Coles spokesman added: “At Coles, we are proud to provide high quality and value to our customers every day.

“If the product is not satisfied with our customer expectations, we encourage them to bring it back to the store so we can offer a refund or replacement.

“We have transformed the 250ml Coles lemon juice and 500ml packaging from opaque bottles to transparent bottles to make them recyclable.

“At Coles, we are committed to reducing unnecessary and problematic plastics in packaging and taking more initiatives, including the transition of Coles Lime Juice 250ml to a transparent bottle that is recyclable to a clear bottle for the next few weeks.”
