Zara King reveals her heroes and touchstones

Zara King, 36, was born in Cork but grew up in Dunmore Rd, Co Waterford. She studied journalism at Cork, Griffith College. In 2010, she joined Iradio Ireland as a news and sports journalist. Later, she worked with several radio and television stations including Newstalk, before joining Virgin Media as a TV news reporter in 2017. Last year, she was appointed as the Southern News Correspondent for Virgin Media.

I didn’t grow up watching TV because I was riding a horse all the time, but there was TV news and current affairs in the background of the house. My grandmother – who lives near Courtmacsherry in Cork – has been in her house with sky.

Kay Burley recently retired after 36 years of radio, and is on TV as long as I remember. She is the face of some of the biggest world event in history. You know, it would be a big international story when Sky sent Kay Burley to the ground somewhere.

Alex Crawford

Alex Crawford by Sky News.

The reporter I admire most is 15 years old, Alex Crawford. She is a special journalist with the sky, he has been to all the war-torn places, to the farthest places in the world. She embodies the truth and makes a voice to those who don’t have one. I was in awe of her heroism, resilience and storytelling. She always puts people in the center of her storytelling. I find this style, this kind of news is really attractive. She is an idol of our time.

Afters

At the University of Cork, I live by St. Barre Cathedral, walking distance to Washington Street, where there are great nightclubs. It is not uncommon for myself and my friends to watch the West Wing Box and take the concept at 10 o’clock. We’ll run upstairs and pick up our lipstick and we’ll sit down at a small cocktail bar near Washington Street at 11 o’clock.

Then go to the aftermath – this nightclub is called afterter because it is in the aftersubs of the building. This is a wonderful time in our lives.

Spice Girl

My favorite show of all time was the Spice Girls Reunion Concert. When the Spice Girls reached their peak, I was a kid from the 90s. The concert is purely nostalgic. Spice Girls make girls of my generation think we can’t achieve it. That girl’s idea of strength.

We really felt that when they announced a party tour in Croke Park, I was 100% going to go. I went with one of my best friends in college. We have a lifetime. Since then, nothing has happened, I don’t think anything will be possible. Very good.

succession

Succession is so good. Production value is unreal. The characters don’t like them, but I like them a lot. I love this character, Tom, Theohan’s husband. He is a sly character, but he is a little cute. He doesn’t mind that others will be collaterally damaged by his progress. He was unapologetic for his ambitions. “You can’t make a tomette without breaking some Gregs.”

West Wing

The West Wing is my favorite box all along. I started watching it in college, so there was a little nostalgia around me. My friends who lived with me at the college revelry were watching it. There is some comfort to go back to the box of characters you met at different times before.

It’s like bumping into an old friend. I like to give the scenes an insight into the White House’s ideas. This is not something you can see every day.

Graham Norton

My favorite book is the work-related books, but the work-related books, which are the Graham Norton books. Many settings are in West Cork. I devoured his nearest Frankie in one day. Very good. It is located in New York. These stories are not what you think they will face. I like that.

There are interesting twists and turns, with complex characters and hearts. His writing style is so descriptive that you almost feel like you sit, smell and taste what his character has experienced.

His & her documentary was produced in 2009. It’s always with me. It is produced by Ken Wardrop. This is a simple concept.

Women of all ages – a little girl who can talk to a lady during her senior year of her life – talk about relationships with men in life. They never revealed anyone’s name. These women just say, “He did, he did.” At some point, you realize that the person they said is gone now. It’s gorgeous storytelling and part of Irish filmmaking.

Escape from politics

Eoghan Murphy is a former Minister of Housing. His book Running from the office: How to fail politically It was about the time he took office and why he got rid of politics. It’s an honest and honest statement about what happened and the pressure he’s going through. Sometimes you are reading it and thinking, oh, I can’t believe you are admitting this.

Honesty is admirable. He raised the cover of the reality of political life – in positions of power, people’s sense of responsibility is not only to the public, but to the individuals who have brought them into office, for the people they rule. Sometimes loyalty to these people may bring them to office, and in his case his loyalty is longer than he wants to stay. This is an interesting reading.

Final game

About three years ago, my colleague and good friend Muireann O’Connell went to see Samuel Beckett of the Dublin Gate Theatre. yes Final game With Robert Sheehan. So amazing. Robert Sheehan is an incredible actor. It was an unforgettable night in the theater.

Documentary

I love Rté Documentary Radio documentaries and podcasts. Every week, you never know what will pop up. Their themes and themes are so diverse. They had two children from Dublin, they hid and went to New York. Very good.

I like to listen to stories from others. The way a team of documents makes stories is the top class – the production, sound quality, sound effects are so professional. Good audio production and radio are what makes you feel like you are there. You will take the journey away. I love a document. This is a great listening.

My therapist has deviled me

I love My therapist has deviled me, Joanne McNally’s podcast with Vogue Williams. Many women of my old fashioned love it. Joanne McNally is so fun, observant, keen and witty. She was fun in the same way in the simplest and smartest way. To see her star rise over the last four years, she killed it, well deservedly – a woman in a comedy on the peak of her power, sold a huge run on Vicar Street. Amazing. I love her podcast.
