Airport: Government. Try to speed up land acquisition

In an effort to speed up land acquisition at Sabarimala Greenfield International Airport, authorities will soon open a special Tehsildar office in Erumum or Kanjirappally.

An exceptional Tahilda will also be appointed to coordinate the acquisition process, official sources said. General Land Acquisition under the Tashildar Office has initiated litigation proceedings to investigate the land in detail to determine the boundaries and scope of the land to be acquired, including from outside Cheruvally Estate. The department also requires about 60 employees to go through the process, which is expected to begin next month.

Under Article 11, paragraph (1) of the LAAR Act, a total of 1,001.873 hectares (2,475.68 acres) will be acquired for projects in South and Manimala villages under Article 11. These include 2,263 acres of Cheruvally Estate, the property owned by Ayana Charitable Trust, which is associated with the Church of the Believers in the East.

Authorities have completed a preliminary investigation to establish the boundaries of the land to be obtained. “A detailed investigation will be conducted to prepare a basic valuation statement, and then a detailed valuation statement will be conducted to determine compensation. The purpose is to finalize the acquisition of compensation by December,” an official said.

Based on this, residents of the project area will receive notification in advance, outlining the scope of land to be obtained.

The area of land to be acquired, the name and address of the property owner, etc. have been published in the State Gazette and newspapers. A notification will be issued based on this. The valuation of the land will be determined based on its type, such as farmland, fallow land, houses, structures and trees, and the price will also vary depending on whether the land has road access.

Compensation will be provided to the owner after a hearing held by the Revenue and Public Works Department to resolve the dispute. In addition to the workers at Cheruvally Estate outlined in Section 19(1) of the Lalfar, the government will initiate steps to announce rehabilitation and resettlement programs.

Detailed information on the land to be obtained will be provided in the Kanjirappally Taluk office, the country office and the relevant Grama Panchayat office.

At the same time, steps to resolve disputes over ownership of Cheruvally property between the Ayana charitable trust and the government have also advanced in the sub-sites of Para. Official sources hinted that the government may conduct the land acquisition process after depositing the value of the land into the court.
