Ravikamatham’s protest at MGNREGA salary

Visakhapatnam: On Monday, 80 workers from the villages of Cheemalapadu and Kalyan Lowa in Cheemalapadu Panchayat in Anakapalli district held a protest at the Ravikamatham MPDO office, raising concerns about their full wages.

Protesters said they dug a pond in the brave sunshine. Although the daily wages for the country are Rs. 307, they pay only Rs 150 per day. Furthermore, despite working for six days, they only entered four days in the register.

Plus their dilemma is the issue of delays and wage reductions. The MGNREGA program requires payment every 15 days. However, this scheme was observed in Cheemalapadu and Kalyan Lowa. There is a clear difference between the promised daily wage (Rs 307) and the actual payment of only Rs 150 per day. Protesters questioned whether this was an administrative oversight or an expected cut in daily wages.

Following their dharna, MGNREGA workers filed a formal petition to MPDO, listing their questions and requirements.
