When the plane was evacuated safely, passengers’ bomb claim delayed the Indigo flight at Kolkata Airport, and then conducted a thorough inspection and then declared it a false alarm.

Bomb intimidation delays Indigo flights at Kolkata Airport

A private airline flight at Kolkata Airport was postponed Tuesday afternoon when a passenger allegedly claimed to have a bomb. The plane was scheduled to fly from Kolkata to Mumbai and was immediately moved to the Quarantine Bay for a comprehensive security check, according to airport officials.

The incident involved a 26-year-old man who traveled from Imphal to Mumbai and stopped in Kolkata. During the step point inspection, this is an ultimate safety process, and the airline staff will fly the passengers before boarding and checking their hand luggage, and the passenger tells the security personnel that he has a bomb.

This caused a serious alarm. Authorities follow standard procedures for such cases. Passengers were immediately detained, evacuated from the plane and taken to an isolated section of the airport for inspection. A total of 186 passengers were scheduled to board the plane, and 179 seats were already at the time of the incident.

The flight operated by Indigo as 6E 5227 was supposed to depart at 1:30 pm to Mumbai. Due to security threats, the aircraft has been delayed due to detailed security checks. Indigo confirmed the threat and the steps taken in a statement:
“Flight 5227 from Kolkata to Mumbai was threatened with bombs from Kolkata to Mumbai before departure. The aircraft was moved to a quarantine bay at Kolkata Airport under the security protocol. All necessary inspections were conducted and standard operating procedures were followed.”

No explosives were found after the investigation, and later declared that the security threat was nonspecific. Nevertheless, authorities took the matter seriously, especially since the security of the entire Indian airport has been on high alert after tensions along the India-Pakistan border. The safety of all passengers remains a top priority, and once the aircraft is cleared, normal operations will be restored.
