Telangana is still the most affordable state in India

Hyderabad: Telangana once again became the country’s lowest inflation state, according to the latest data released by the Union’s Ministry of Statistics and Plans.
Retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was recorded at 1.26%, a slight increase from the 1.06% observed in March. However, the state continues to outperform all other countries, with inflation well below the national average of 3.16%.
The state’s inflation rate is still 2-4% below the “healthy inflation range” recommended by the Reserve Bank of India. It is worth noting that Telangana is the only major country in India to maintain inflation below 2%, a feat that emphasizes its strong economic management. Delhi recorded the second highest inflation of 1.77%.
In the rupture of inflation in urban and rural areas, Telangana’s rural inflation was only 0.44%, in sharp contrast to urban inflation, with an urban inflation rate of 1.99%. The national averages of rural and urban inflation were 2.92% and 3.36%, respectively.
This marks an impressive turnaround in the state, which has previously struggled to cope with high inflation between 2020 and 2023, usually above 10%, raising concerns about rising cost of living. However, inflation has dropped significantly since the Congressional administration came to power.
Telangana continues to record the country’s lowest inflation rate in 2025. In February, Telangana’s inflation rate was 1.31% in February and further dropped to 1.06% in March.
In April, when Telangana recorded the country’s lowest inflation in March at 1.06%, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said Telangana had become the country’s lowest inflation state, the country’s lowest transition from its former BRS regime as the highest position.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy celebrated the achievement in an article published on X on April 12, thanks to the Congressional administration’s “transformative and people-centered” policies. He said that Telangana, which once had the highest inflation rate under the BRS regime, was once the lowest inflation state in the country, and now has become the lowest inflation state due to important welfare initiatives.
Among these measures, the highlights include free bus trips for women, “500” LP cylinders, free electricity for up to 200 units of households, Rs 1 million coverage under the Rajiv Arogyasri health care programme and recently free rice promotion through water storage stores.
“Telangana has the highest inflation rate in the country under the BRS rule. Today, it is the lowest inflation country, demonstrating the people’s government and its transformative, common people-centered policies,” the chief minister said.
He noted that these welfare programs not only reduce the financial burden on citizens, but also promote systemic change, marking a significant shift in the state’s economic trajectory. Revanth Reddy added: “The change that people hope is now a reality. It’s the people’s government.”
