Nellol: Driven by a strong boost to fluoride pollution in certain villages in Udayagiri constituency, MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has opened five new Amrutha Dhara water purified plants in the day.
This move by MP’s VPR Foundation is designed to provide safe drinking water in fluoride-affected areas where access to clean water is a daily challenge.
“Excessive fluoride in groundwater has been a long-term problem in the region, causing serious health problems such as bone fluoride, especially in rural communities,” said MLA Kakarla Suresh.
The village wears festive exteriors, showers, fireworks, folk shows and local music bands to add to the occasion. The well-dressed woman lined up in a row in a traditional pot after cutting the ribbon and collected pure drinking water in the traditional pot.
As a result, the total number of VPR Amrutha Dhara plants in the constituency has risen to 36, as part of a broader effort by the VPR Foundation, which has established 170 water purification units throughout the region.
MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy recalled: “Udayagiri was close to my heart. This is where I initiated the first Amrutha Dhara factory.
MLA Suresh praised the MP for his commitment, calling him “Garala Kanthudu” (the one who swallowed poison for the people), a reference to mythical sacrifice. “Just like Lord Shiva drank poison to save the world, our MPs are providing safe water to protect people from fluoride,” MLA noted.
Local leaders, including rural Salpanchi people and party workers, honored the MPs and MLA for their contributions.
Several prominent figures participated in the event, including former MLA Kambham Vijaya Rami Reddy and Ex-Zilla Parishad chairman Ponnuboyina Chanchala Babu Yadav, in addition to TDP, BJP and other leaders of Jana Sena.
But the citizens present said. “The long-term solution lies in water supply from reliable sources like Somasila Reservoir. Until then, these water plants were a vital lifeline.”
