Hyderabad’s GI Bracelet Dazzle Miss World Beauty Pageant

Hyderabad:Every Miss World Pageant who walked through Laad Bazaar on Tuesday received a hand-made Lac bracelet by artisans at Premium Khaja, a century-old shop next to Charminar. This is one of about 300 stores in the area dedicated to traditional art.
Six craftsmen from Senior Khaja worked for 27 days and prepared 109 custom bracelets for beauty pageants. “Every bracelet is different,” said Mohammed Anwar, a fourth-generation craftsman with over fifty years of experience. “On one hand they are a picture of the contestants and on the other side they are a picture of the Indian tricolors,” he explained.
Anwar added that they provided the bracelets to the state tourism authorities to provide distribution, hoping that the gesture would promote the global traditional bracelet art in Hyderabad.
This is not the first time that craftsmen have gained international recognition. In 2017, they made brushed bracelets and pearls for Ivanka Trump when he visited Hyderabad as a U.S. government representative. “We were delighted when the contestants passed through our shop. It was amazing to see our work attract participants in the global pageant,” said Mohammed Zubair, another artisan on the team.
