Jia Wan’s wife died after childbirth; the family was waiting for him to return from the border

Bhubaneswar: In a heartbreaking event, SSHASTRA Seema Bal (SSB) Jawan’s wife had to leave the border shortly after the birth of the child, who died while being treated for post-delivery complications in the Sambalpur district of Odisha.
The 15-day-old baby girl is currently with her extended family at Tengnamal Village in the Lakhanpur neighborhood of Jharsuguda District. Working to bring her father, Debraj Gand, back from his post along the Indian-Batan border in Arunachal Pradesh.
Condolences, Minister of Taxation and Disaster Management of Odisha, Suresh Pujari, said: “I deeply mourn the inappropriate demise of Jawan’s wife. We are making all the necessary arrangements so that he can bring him back so that he can perform the final ceremony with his family in the grief of this hour.”
The deceased, identified as 28-year-old Lipi Gand, delivered a baby girl on April 28 at Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital in Burla. The family said her husband was called back to the border the next day despite attending his duties at the time of delivery.
Shortly after delivery, Lipi’s condition worsened. She remained in a coma for 15 days, battling severe post-delivery complications before succumbing to a late-night multi-organ failure on Monday. The hospital doctor revealed that she was being arranged to be transferred to an air ambulance, but she could not hold on.
“We express our heartfelt sympathy for the families of the deceased,” Minister Pujari said, adding that the government is promoting Debraj’s travel home.
According to officials, Havan traveled to Guwahati at his post in Arunachal Pradesh. From there, he will board a flight to Kolkata and head to Jharsuguda, which he is expected to arrive tonight.
“The entire village is waiting for his return because the tragedy has put the closely connected community in a state of melancholy,” the minister said.
