Age disclosure penalty of only $1.4 million in allegations of illegal content

The UK media and telecom regulator announced on Thursday that it had fined operators of adult-only platforms, only £1.05 million ($1.4 million) for failing to meet age verification and disclosure requirements, Reuters reported.

The fines are growing due to concerns about the platform’s involvement in hosting illegal content, including child sexual abuse materials and trafficking.

Meanwhile, another Reuters reported earlier in January 2025 that subscription-based subscription-based platforms have been the center of allegations involving their payment processors Visa and Mastercard.
According to a Reuters report, a whistleblower identified as a senior compliance expert filed a complaint in January 2023, accusing the two credit card giants of failing to prevent their network from processing payments for illegal materials on the platform.

Reuters said the whistleblower claimed that the two companies had realized only mortal illegal content, including child sexual abuse materials, since at least 2021, but were “blind” to the transactions.
