Bangladesh celebrated its National Day on March 26, 1971, when the country declared part of Pakistan to declare its independence.

Bangladesh Liberation War

Prime Minister Modi said a misunderstanding was made to Yunus and the people of Bangladesh, “The spirit of the Bangladesh Liberation War remains the guiding light for our relationship, thriving in multiple areas and bringing tangible benefits to our people.”

Yunus also shared Modi’s information from the official handle on X.

Modi assured Bangladesh that New Delhi remains committed to its partnership with Bangladesh, a foundation that is driven by a shared desire for peace, stability and prosperity and is based on mutually sensitive to each other’s interests and concerns.

He wrote to Yunus: “Please accept your Excellency, my highest guarantee.”

Since the new interim government led by Yunus followed the removal of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, the relationship between the two countries has seen a depression in India’s focus on violence against Hindus and the rise of tough Islamic forces.
