Accused of forging a Pune Court judge’s signature in a forgery case to obtain bail before arrest

Pune: Police said on Thursday that the defendants allegedly committed the forgery and copyright infringement had obtained expected bail from the Mumbai High Court using forgery to sign a forgery order from the Pune Court judge.

They said the defendant Haribhau Chemte was released on bail in January and is currently absconding.

According to police, Pune-based company CTR Manufacturing Pvt Ltd filed a complaint in 2022 after discovering the drawings and designs of its patents were abused by a Chennai-based company.

The investigation shows that some of CTR employees colluded with officials from the defendant company to participate in the unauthorized use of these proprietary designs.

Chemte, who allegedly worked in the CTR Manufacturing quality control department between 2016 and 2017, involved design theft, according to police sources.

Vimantal police in Pune registered the case in 2022 on charges of forgery and copyright infringement. During the investigation, Chemte’s name also appeared, and he was named in this case.

“Chemte’s expected bail application is being tried in the Mumbai High Court and he hatched the plot,” said a police officer.

“He forged a court order under Section 169 of the CRPC and forged a forgery by the magistrate of justice (first class) in January this year and filed a fraudulent handwritten order to secure bail with the Mumbai High Court.”

Section 169 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) allows the release of the defendant if there is insufficient evidence to justify further legal action.

According to police, the HC approved his expected bail on January 17.

The complainant in the original forgery case marked a suspicious order, prompting the High Court to revoke the bail granted to Chemte and start an investigation into the fraud, the official said.

The complainant then approached the Vimantal Police Department, where the original forgery and copyright infringement cases were registered and a new complaint against Chemte, who is currently absconding.

Vimatal police conducted a new case against Chemte in Section 337 (forged public records and document forgery), page 339 (with fake documents or electronic records with intention to use them as real orders), 246 (dishonestly having false claims in court) and Bharatiya Nyaya Aaya Aaya Aya Sanhita.
