RBANM’s educational charity celebrates Founder’s Day on May 14 at the renowned philanthropist Dharmarathnakara Rai Bahadur Arcot Arcot Arnainsawmy Mudaliar.
RBANM Secretary Arvind Narling Narrain stated the relevance of the founder’s vision today, saying: “The founder’s concept of wealth is for the benefit of society, and the definition of philanthropy is the spread of knowledge, and everything he did with his efforts.” He elaborated on the institutions founded by the founder as part of his elimination of caste and gender discrimination, such as the free English school in the Guangzhou area, and the Govindammal school for free education for girls.
Gyanamurthy, currently part of Rotary International and alumni of 1950, shares anecdotes about how to teach the meaning of charity in schools. “Each of us has a sweet person and asks to share it with an oppressed child if we want a child ourselves, but in the end we all share both.”
The event ends with a musical rendition by folk artist and researcher Shilpa Mudbi. She demonstrates socializing activities on the folk tales of Yerama and informs the audience about how folk forms can create moments of community catharsis.
Faculty and staff from various departments introduce topics about Dalit resistance, femininity and social identity in Tamil, Hindi and English.
Representatives from eight institutions tagged their presence along with board members.
