Nine people arrested in the Veeraiah Chowdary murder

Nellol: In “a creepy case of political vendetta and contract killing”, police arrested nine men involving the Telugu Sadan leader, liquor baron and former MP P Muppavarapu Veeraiah Chowdary.
Police announced the arrest Wednesday. Chowdary was stabbed to death in his office on April 22. The attack took place around 7.30 pm on the second floor of the Shashirekha agent building in Sambasiva Nagar, Ongole.
Veeraiah was verifying the hotel account before four masked attackers rushed in, repeatedly stabbing him and threatening employees, before fleeing the motorcycle and the bike through Guntur Flyvover.
A case was registered with the Ongole Taluk Police Station that night and investigated under the guidance of Prakasam SP Damodar and Ongole DSP Srinivas Rao.
On Wednesday, police confirmed arrests of nine defendants, including so-called mastermind Borlagunta Vinod Kumar, who has long resented the victims’ losses to the sand business.
Another arrested included a contract killer from Nellor and a political partner of Chodari’s rivals.
Veeraiah is an outstanding figure in the Telugu Desam and an influential businessman who has been long-standing disputes with two villagers (Alla Sambasiva Rao and Muppa Suresh). The investigation shows Sambasiva Rao and Suresh tried to eliminate Vinod Kumar’s Veeraiah and offered to clear 1 million euros of debt and further payments after the murder.
Vinod, who has criminals with Nellore, formed a murder squad that included Tuvar Vamsi Krishna, Mannem Teja (@bunny), Bellamkonda Venkata Goutham and Golla Ruthyendra Babu (@nani). They monitored and coordinated through other colleagues and made well-planned hits.
Before the attack, the killer stayed in the PG hotel and used the local hideout in Ongole. Weapons are provided, arranged and even used to avoid discovery of weapons. On the day of the murder, his outfit (a gray shirt) identified Veeraiah’s body.
Based on evidence found in surveillance videos and a discarded bomber race, the special police team tracked and arrested the defendant. The items caught include seven knives, three knives, a black bag and two defendants used in the escape: Heroes Honda Glory and Suzuki Visit 125.
Three suspects – Muppa Suresh, Obili Nagaraju and Golla Ruthyendra Babu (@nani) – may appear.
