The crime rate in Tamil Nadu has risen by more than 50% this year.

BJP Governor Nainar Nagenthran claimed on Thursday (May 15, 2025) that all types of crimes in Tamil Nadu have increased by 52% this year compared to the previous year.

Murder, sexual assault and alcohol-related crimes are being reported every day and are increasing, Mr Nagenthran said.

During a brief interaction with Tiruchi’s reporter, Mr. Nagenthran attributed this interest to drinking. He accused the DMK government of not having proper attention to the issue and simply attributed the adjudication agency to the increase in the number of crimes.

When asked about the Kodanad Estate Heist-Cum-Mumder case, Mr Nagenthran said his party position was the culprit and should be punished. When asked if more parties would join the AIADMK-BJP alliance, he simply said there was one year left in the congress election.
