A woman was raped on night shift near Pune, held alone

Police said Thursday that a 27-year-old woman was working night shifts in the Chakan area in Pune and was allegedly raped and beaten by a man. The defendant was identified as Prakash Bhangre and has been arrested. An official said the incident allegedly occurred around 11.45 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputy Police Commissioner Shivaji Pawar said the woman was walking to a bus pick-up point in the Medankarwadi area when the defendant stopped her and dragged her into a commercial complex where he was allegedly sexually assaulted.
Her cry reminded two passersby, prompting the defendant to escape from the place. The official said Chakan police formed 10 teams to track the defendants after being informed of the rape and were arrested with the help of technical analysis and local intelligence.
He added that the defendant and the survivor did not know each other and they did not work together.
