Visitors die of a collapsed door tent: Police operators in two resorts in Wayanad, Kerala

Police have arrested two private resort operators as part of the death of a 24-year-old female tourist under a collapsed tent in Kandi 900 Kandi, a famous eco-tourism location in the Wayanad district of Kerala.

KP Swachand, 28, and KK Anurag, 26, were arrested and held in judicial custody in a preliminary investigation report that exposed alleged violations of safety rules when managing tourism facilities.

Police sources said the two were managers and supervisors at Tentgram Resort in Candy near Meppadi. Charge under section 105 (the punishment for homicide caused by the offence does not equal murder).

At about 1 a.m. Thursday, Nishma, a 24-year-old tourist from Malapuram district, died after a weak tent collapsed. Preliminary investigations found that temporary tents built with wooden poles and tents with hay thatch collapsed and could not withstand the effects of heavy rain. The other three tourists were also injured in the incident.
