President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and leader greet Sikkim during the country

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and political leaders greeted the people on Friday (May 16, 2025) in Sikkim’s national era and said the state set an extraordinary example of sustainable development, demonstrating harmony with nature.
Sikkim became the 22nd state in India on May 16, 1975.

“I wish you best to all the residents of Sikkim,” President Murmu said in an article on X.
“Sikkim is widely praised for its infinite natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and warmth of its people. Sikkim, one of India’s most environmentally conscious countries, is an outstanding example of sustainable development, showing a harmonious coexistence with nature.”
Similarly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Sikkim for his progress in different sectors.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also wants the people of the state. “Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and diversity is filled with rich natural beauty, full of natural beauty, which is truly fascinating and a great pride for its people and nations,” Harji said in his post on X.
According to the Secretary-General of the Congress, Jairam Ramesh, the 36th Constitution Amendment Act was passed by Lok Sabha on April 23, 1975 and Rajya Sabha three days later.
Subsequently, after the president’s consent, the 36th Amendment was enacted, on May 16, 1975 (actually fifty years ago) – Sikim became India’s 22nd state, making special provisions on the special provisions of Article 371-F of the Constitution and its people, he recalled. “The Republic of India has been very rich through Sikkim’s integration. The state has achieved many impressive achievements in its credibility,” Ramesh said.
He said PN Dhar’s book is called “Indira Gandhi”, and Emergency and Democracy of India (2001) are the biggest descriptions of the merger that have occurred.
“My own intertwined life: PN Haksar and Indira Gandhi (2018) wrote two fascinating notes in the early 1970s, and Haksar was then the chief assistant to PM, the latter of which was the backdrop for the final achievement of 1975,” Mr Ramesh said on X.
