Can the International Atomic Energy Agency or the United Nations control or destroy Pakistan’s nuclear weapons? What can India do?

After the 1991 Gulf War, the United States introduced a resolution to remove and destroy Baghdad’s nuclear assets. UN Security Council resolution 687 has given the mandate of the world institutions to destroy, delete and exaggerate harmless Iraqi nuclear weapons.

Can the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or the United Nations control nuclear weapons in Pakistan? The question was raised after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh called Pakistan a rogue state and questioned the security of nuclear assets of Islamic states. If you can believe the report, it is reported that Pakistan has 170 nuclear warheads, only two fewer than India. However, it could be accused of using nuclear ransomware because it threatens to use the weapon in India, even without any provocation. Islamabad reminds New Delhi of its nuclear capabilities after the Pahargam terrorist attacks.

Did Donald Trump avoid India-Pakistan nuclear war?

After India attacked Pakistan’s terror hiding place, Islamabad retaliated by targeting Indian Air Force Base. As tensions escalate, U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly interfered and put pressure on India and Pakistan to stop hostilities and agree to a ceasefire. “We stopped the nuclear conflict. I think it could be a nuclear war. Millions of people could be killed,” he said.

Does the IAEA mandate apply to Pakistan?

Despite Rajnath Singh’s comments at a public meeting, the Indian government has not formally contacted the International Atomic Energy Agency or the United Nations. But the pointless question is: Can nuclear regulators control Pakistan’s nuclear weapons? Islamabad has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, so it does not comply with the provisions of the world’s institutions. It has not yet accepted comprehensive guidelines and safeguards for watchdogs and is therefore not subject to IAEA inspections.

The IAEA mandate covers countries that signed up for the unsustainable and puts their civilian nuclear programs and facilities under the inspection of the world agencies. Pakistan is not in the “Not to the East” “Not to the East” and the International Atomic Energy Agency cannot force Pakistan to do anything or control its nuclear facilities or assets.

Can the United Nations destroy Pakistan’s nuclear weapons?

But if the UN Security Council considers this a major threat to humanity and world peace, it can control Pakistan’s nuclear facilities. After the 1991 Gulf War, the United States introduced a resolution to remove and destroy Baghdad’s nuclear assets. UN Security Council resolution 687 has given the mandate of the world institutions to destroy, delete and impart harmless weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons. After the resolution was passed, the International Atomic Energy Agency played a key role in verifying the demolition of Iraq’s nuclear program.

Can India obtain UNSC resolution approval?

At least theoretically, Pakistan’s nuclear program could do the same. But in a practical sense, this is almost impossible. The resolution should be approved by 9 of the 15 members of the UN Security Council without veto. Among the five permanent members with veto power, China is Pakistan’s all-weather friend for its geopolitical reasons. Any such resolution will certainly be rejected. Beijing has taken the scope to prevent India from trying to add Azhar Masood to the international terrorist list.

India is the last choice to bomb Pakistan’s nuclear assets. However, there is a real risk of radiation leakage and possible nuclear war between the two countries. India certainly won’t go to this level. So, in reality, India is powerless to do anything about Pakistan’s nuclear program. In this regard, the IAEA can’t do anything to Pakistan either.
