A 50-member Rapid Response Team (RRT) of Kerala Forest Department, led by Chief Veterinarian Arun Zachariah, has been deployed to capture the people’s tigers found in Kalikavu in Malapuram district on Thursday.
Forest chief conservation officer T. Uma told reporters Friday that despite setting up 50 camera traps to find the tiger on Thursday night, it has not been successful so far. However, the tiger’s claws were found.
She said two trained Kumki elephants have been brought from Muthanga in Wayanad to help with the mission. A drone team has also been deployed. RRT plans to conduct a search action in three teams, each with a veterinarian. They plan to use calming lenses to capture tigers.
The tiger was killed in a rubber plantation in Adakkakudu on Thursday morning.
Later, local residents protested, citing repeated wildlife threats in the area, demanding the killing of the tiger.
