Central Asia’s Climate Change Summit in Astana: Climate Finance and Food Security Focus

Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, will host the 2026 Climate Summit (RCS 2026), a landmark event aimed at promoting cooperation in climate change regions, including climate financing.

The Astana summit will become a key platform for Central Asian countries to coordinate climate change responses. With the support of regional leaders, the summit will focus on five core themes: low-carbon transition, climate adaptation, food security, just transition and climate financing.

The preparations involved seven regional consultations, the first being held in Almaty in March and the second being held in Samarkand. During the main meetings, theme meetings have been held, such as the Central Asia Conference on Climate Change in Turkmenistan (CACCC-2025). Other meetings are planned during events such as the Brazilian COP30 and the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Expected results include joint climate action decisions, regional financial mechanisms and new cross-border projects. The summit was coordinated by the Central Asia Climate Foundation’s Project Office and established a dedicated work headquarters in Kazakhstan.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced at the Astana International Forum (AIF) in 2023 that the summit will convene Asian leaders to promote forward joint climate initiatives, financial mechanisms and cross-border projects.
