AG demands expedited compensation allocation to employees at Elstone Estate

Kerala advocates have been directed to speed up the allocation of severance payments to employees of Elstone Estate in Wayanad, and the government is planning to establish a township to accommodate survivors of Mundakkai-Choralmala Landslides. The Directive was in Minister K. Rajan (income), V. Sivankutty (public education and labor) and/or Kelu (scheduled caste and tribe development) were held at the meetings, except for regional collector R. Meghashree and additional labor commissioner (IR) Sunil KM.
AG has informed the High Court that the government owes employees Rs 5,97,53,793 on various accounts and that the income recovery process is underway. In addition, the relevant departments are collecting details of the wages, wage arrears and remunerations of these employees. The government has remitted the court’s amounts requested in two installments. However, the court has no instructions on how to allocate the amount. The state has filed an affidavit in the court to provide compensation to employees in the amount remitted from the court. The agriculture was directed at the meeting to draw the attention of the court.
Various benefits
At an earlier meeting at the Wayanad District Labor Office, Elstone Estate’s administrators agreed not to delay payment of various benefits to employees. This includes PF arrears from February 2015 to December 2024 (₹2,73,43,304), fine for the same suggested by the Provident Fund Commissioner, the bonus for the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25 (₹4,43,995), annual leave surrender benefits for years 2022, 2023 and 2024 (₹14,20,591), salary arrears for the years 2019 and 2023 (Rs 4,46,382), excess provident fund (Rs 7,21,240), wage arrears for employees and supervisors for four months (Rs 17,93,087) (₹17,93,087), six years (Rs 3,25,500) (Rs 3,25,500), 150 employees (rewards Rs 150) (Rs 33,67,409).
