Guest lecturer requests April salary

Visiting lecturers hope the state government will pay in April. Although in 2019, the Madras High Court directed the lecturer to pay at a price of Rs 50,000 as salary, the government has been paying Rs 25,000 since June 2023 and only within 11 months.

“Every year, only April salary can be paid in July. This creates financial difficulties for guest lecturers. They work hard to pay for their children’s rent and tuition for their children,” said G. Sivakumar, former president of the Association of Qualified Guest Visiting Lecturers at the School of Arts and Sciences.

Although teachers assumed examination duties and students enrolled in May, they did not pay for their services, adding: “Salary must be paid throughout the 12 months.”

Delayed payments put a lot of pressure on teachers and many suffer from health problems. Nearly 1,000 of them died due to this pressure. He added that the government should donate Rs 2.5 lakh to the families of deceased teachers and government work to family members.

Among the 164 arts and science colleges and seven teachers’ education colleges under government authority, up to 5,699 guest lecturers out of 7,360 lecturers in Shift I and Shift II.
