Jamu and Tulbul Tussle of Kashmir: Mehbooba

Srinagar: Jamu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and former CM Mehbooba Mufti fought a speech war on the Tulbul Navigation project at Wular Lake in North Kashmir. CM accused Mufti of trying to “please cross the border people”, while Mufti said Abdullah’s claim was “a dangerous provocation.”

It all started Thursday when Abdullah shared aerial footage from Wular Lake, saying: “Now, IWT is temporarily suspended,’ and I wonder if we can resume the project.”

“This will provide us with the advantage of allowing us to navigate with JHELUM. This will also improve the generation of downstream power projects, especially in the winter,” Abdullah said.

The Tulbul Navigation Project (commonly known as the Wular Barrage Project) was launched in the 1980s, but due to opposition from Pakistan, work was suspended. The Article 9 project allowed by the IWT is intended for non-consumer use, and this work was restarted in 2010, when the NC-Congress government was also led by Abdullah. In 2012, unidentified militants bounced a grenade at a barrage, and even defeated some workers at the project site.

In response to Abdullah’s comments, Mufti wrote that the comments by J&K CM are deeply unfortunate and dangerously provocative in the context of ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. She said people should get peace like anyone else in the country. “Weapons are as essential as water and what gives life is not only inhumane, but also risk international weapons to make what should be bilateral matter,” Mufti said. Please read also: India’s Afghan propaganda pointed out that it was an emerging dynamic that Abdullah refuted, saying that unfortunately, Mufti’s “blind desire attempts to rate cheap propaganda points and gets some people to sit on the border crossing” led her to refuse to admit that IWT is the biggest “historic betrayer” of the interests of J&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k&k Mufti later claimed that North Carolina founder Sheikh Abdullah abandoned the fight for a referendum when he was appointed chief minister of J&K in 1975.

J&K CM’s response said that Mufti himself shot cheap shots for Kashmir’s top leaders as the best PDP leaders can do. Abdullah also shared some media reports, in which Mufti said that the IWT violated the interests of the J&K people.

Mufti said Abdullah now cites IWT as a reckless strategy to derail the ceasefire.
