Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said at a high review meeting held on Friday that the government would adopt a “iron-handed attitude towards fake seed merchants”, with consultant Vem Narender Reddy and senior official and Minister of Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao attending the high review meeting.
CM directed agricultural officials to prepare adequately for the upcoming monsoon crop season, stressing the need to provide adequate seeds and fertilizers in all regions.
He directed regional collectors and police to remain vigilant and conduct joint raids through the task force. He reiterated the government’s zero tolerance for “cheating” farmers using fake seeds and fertilizers.
He warned that strict legal proceedings were taken against companies and traders involved in forging agricultural inputs.
Mr Reddy said the government has detailed information on fake seed operations, including storage, transportation and distribution routes, and called for surveillance at state borders. He ordered the invocation of the Preventive Detention (PD) Act for Repeated Persons and directed Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to coordinate with the District Collector, Police Commissioner and Commissioner to prevent farmers from facing any obstacles.
CM stresses the importance of buying only packaged seeds, requiring farmers to keep their bills and packaging until the end of the harvest season with responsibility. He directed the Ministry of Agriculture to launch a broad awareness campaign against fake seeds and companies.
The CM also urged farmers to pay attention to IMD’s warnings about early monsoons and start sowing in due time.
Officials told him that all regions currently have sufficient seed and fertilizer stocks. They also noted that the area of rice and cotton planting is expected to be high this season and that all demand seeds are available on the market.
