Kashmir’s chief pastor and Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was enthusiastic about India and Pakistan on Friday (May 16, 2025) to “relegate” and “work for a permanent ceasefire in J&K”.
Mirwaiz gave a habitual preaching at Jama Masjid in Srinagar, highlighting the death of the twins in Ponchi in a recent military confrontation with J&K in Pakistan. “The image of smiling twins, 12-year-old Zain and Urwa will continue to haunt us,” Mirwaiz said. “The image of the smiling twins, 12-year-old Zain and Urwaiz will continue to haunt us. Deep in the pain. Over the past few days, we have experienced another painful experience, and this fanatical conflict has been ignited, and several hours approaching the hours between the two nuclear powers,” Mirwaiz said.
He said Kashmir is a nuclear flash point that can explode at any time. “It is a territorial issue for India and Pakistan, but for the J&K people who have this conflict reality every day, it is a bleeding wound that refuses to heal. How long will we suffer and live in fear and uncertainty?” asked Mirwaz.
He said that when everyone was talking about Kashmir, no one talked to Kashmir: “To the people who were it, the people who lived here”.
“For the people in Jamu and Kashmir, we want peace, not war. We want to resolve, not continue the conflict,” Mirwaz said.
Mirwaiz warned that military marginal systems would only lead to disasters. He added: “Whether India and Pakistan want peace or disagreement, people of Kashmir wonder.”
He said it was his honest hope that the ceasefire announced by the Director General of Military Operations of the two countries (DGMO) until May 18 “become permanent.”
He added: “One person wants to know: If both DGMOs can talk and reach an agreement, then what prevents Indian and Pakistani leaders from doing this?
