Trump suggests we should “take over Gaza and turn it into a “free zone” – Economic Times Video

President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to take over the Gaza Strip, telling a Catar business that the United States would “make it a free zone” and believes there is nothing left to save on the Palestinian territory. Trump first proposed his Gaza idea in February, saying the United States would redevelop it and force Palestinians to go elsewhere. The plan, with Palestinians, Arab countries and the United Nations, said it would constitute a plan for ethnic cleansing. Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million people were internally displaced as Israel was subjected to military attacks, killing nearly 53,000 Palestinians and destroying most of its enclaves. Israel began attacks after the Hamas attack in October 2023. Trump, who has presided over Hamas’ political post in Doha for years, said he “I think the concept of Gaza is very good: make it a free zone, get the United States involved”. Trump said he had seen “I mean, there is little building status. It’s not to say you’re going to save something. There are no buildings. People live under the ruins of collapsed buildings, which is unacceptable.” He added: “I want to see (Gaza) is a free zone. If necessary, I think I’m proud to have the United States own it, make it a free zone. Let something good happen.”
