Youth Mobility Programme May Be Part of EU Transactions, Starmer Signal

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer sent his strongest signal that the youth mobility program could thus far be part of a new deal with the EU.
Speech era He insisted that such a plan would not boil down to freedom of the Brexit movement before Monday’s summit between the group and the UK.
Sir Kyle said it would be a “reciprocity” arrangement where young people will be able to go abroad for up to two years, but there is no specific details about the ages that may be eligible and whether there will be a digital cap.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch described the possible plan as a “free movement through the back door”.
“We are not against youth mobility programs. We are against unqualified immigration programs,” she wrote on X.
British reforms have responded to these sentiments. Its deputy leader, Richard Tice, said earlier this week that such a plan would be “weak” in the EU’s freedom movement.
Sir Kyle denied the allegations, saying that labor has a red line in our declaration about freedom of movement, “Youth mobility is not freedom of movement”.
A deal is expected to be announced at a summit on Monday that will be held at the Lancaster House in London.
Laura Kuenssberg of the BBC was told that it was just an agreement, not a final one.
She learned that the EU has been pushing for four years, and the UK is not considering more than one or two.
Before Brexit, young people in the UK had the right to travel freely and without a visa in other parts of Europe, and vice versa. A new agreement could restore a similar situation.
The Prime Minister has pointed out that the UK has proposed a mutual youth mobility scheme (YMS) with people like Australia (YMS) – where people aged 18 to 35 are allowed to work in each other’s countries.
The UK currently offers visas that allow young people from 12 non-EU countries, including Japan, South Korea and Uruguay, to study or work in the UK for up to two years. People from Australia, Canada or New Zealand can extend the amount for another year.
These visas are annual quotas, ranging from 100 visas in Andorra to 42,000 visas in Australia, with the ballots exceeding the scope.
The Conservative Government was last year Rejected the EU’s offer This will make it easier for people aged between 30 and 30 to study and work abroad after Brexit.
Labor said at the time that it would not have a “plan for youth mobility program” if it won the election.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said on Friday in the BBC’s Newsight program that the current government is sending a “mixed message” that he wants to hear “speak in a voice and say they want a youth mobility program”.
Such plans will “promote businesses by rocket boosters in London”, where there are gaps in areas including hotels, creative industries, health and social care,” he said.
The Liberal Democrats also welcomed the idea of a new form of youth mobility program, which European spokesman James MacClary called “a welcome step in the right direction.”
He added: “This news is a glimmer of hope for young people who are so severe in Brexit. The government needs to follow it now.”
British European Relations Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds publicly confirmed last week that the government is considering establishing a youth mobility program as part of a new cooperation agreement with the EU.
He told the Financial Times that “smart, controlled youth mobility programs will certainly be good for our young people” – as long as the government’s red line is respected.
Ask if the UK will consider rejoining in the future Erasmus Student Program, Thomas-Symonds said there is no plan to do so at this time, but added that the government “always willing to listen to the wise advice of the EU”.
University and students who the BBC recently spoke to college Says Brexit makes learning less attractive in the UK.
For example, since August 2021, new students in the EU have generally had to pay international fees and are not eligible for tuition loans.
In addition to youth mobility, issues such as fishing rights are expected to be discussed at Monday’s meeting – the first time since Brexit.
Sir Kyle described the upcoming speech as a “very important moment”, saying they will help create greater wealth for the British people.
“No one wants to keep the past nine years, I think [the things] What they will care most about is – will I get better? – This will be the first test. ” he said.
