Tiruchi Corporation has stepped up cleaning of all over the elevated tanks (OHT) and chlorinated water after complaining about drinking water pollution and supplying discolored water in certain areas of the city.
Instructed officers to clean the tank and its valve pits every two weeks and monitor the quality of drinking water provided at the ward level every day. Where underground drainage work is underway, the drinking water distribution line should be inspected by officials every day.
Health officials are checking the water supply network, collecting water samples, chlorinated water and monitoring chlorine levels. Officials say the quality of the water could cause flooding in the city.
“Measures have been taken to prevent water contamination. The entire elevated tank will be cleaned regularly and water samples will be tested to check the quality of water provided to residents,” a senior company official said.
Meanwhile, citizen agencies plan to expand the spot chlorination system for the entire elevated tank in the city. An automated mechanism was installed in 20 storage tanks to add chlorine to drinking water to prevent mistakes in chlorinated water. The motor pump in the system will automatically add chlorinated water when replenishing the water tank.
After the test, the system will be installed in all OHTs. Currently, the operator’s engaged chlorine is in the overhead water tank, and about four liters of water chloride is added to every 100,000 liters of drinking water.
