Telangana High Court takes over weightlifting related cases
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court raised the issue of weightlift-related accidents that have claimed life in recent weeks and directed the state government to submit the counter to laws and rules governing the installation and maintenance of lifts in commercial and residential buildings.
On March 14, after a four-year-old boy died in a weightlifting accident in Shantinagar, the High Court received a letter that stated that the accident was the result of weightlifting and lacked the responsibility to maintain the lift. The sender asked the court to direct the government to quickly formulate legislation, rules and guidelines for improving security.
The court was aware of the letter and issued instructions to the Chief Secretary, the City Chief Secretary and the Legal Secretary to explain the government’s position and why the letter should not be accepted as a PIL.
