Water polo coach Lilie James murdered St Andrews Cathedral School is locked on the invaders

After water polo coach Lilie James’ murdered private school was trapped in an emergency lockdown, a male intruder entered one of its buildings and threatened employees.

St Andrew’s Cathedral School in Sydney’s CBD was locked by police on Monday morning, and a man broke into a “threatening employee and then returning to campus”.

The man entered the school’s Bishop Barry Center on Druitt Street, which is part of the St Andrews campus near Sydney City Hall.

Parents warned of lockdown via school text messages.

Lilie James was murdered by sports coach Paul Thijssen in the toilet near the school staff room on October 25, 2023.

Then, Thijssen then fell down or jumped up and took his life on the cliffs of Vaucluse in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

After police sweep the building, the parents of students at St Andrews School were told that “everyone is safe” but the school remains on high alert.

NSW police issued a statement on Monday morning saying a police operation at a school in Sydney’s CBD is now over.

“Officers from the Sydney City Police Command attended the meeting at 9.45 am (Monday, May 19, 2025) after reports that a man had earlier threatened employees and had since returned to campus.

“The school was locked under lock, searching for buildings at the corner of Druit and Kent Street and assisting with expert resources.

“Despite extensive searches of reasons, the man still couldn’t find it and locked it.

“This incident is now being investigated and ask to continue finding the person.”
