SC hears Ashoka University’s request for arrest, related to social media posts about Sindoor operations

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a plea from Ali Khan Mahmudabad, associate professor and head of the Department of Political Science at Ashoka University, for his recent arrest in a controversial social media post related to the Sindoor operation.

Senior defense attorney Kapil Sibal mentioned the matter on a bench led by Chief Justice Br Gavai, seeking an emergency hearing. The court said it would list the matter for consideration on May 20 or 21.

Professor Mahamudabad was arrested by Delhi police on Sunday for allegedly posting inflammatory remarks online about the Sindooor operation. He was detained from Greater Kailash in South Delhi and then handed over to Sonyfate police in Haryana. He is currently being questioned at the RAI police station in Sonyfat.
According to ANI, authorities have confirmed that FIR has been filed twice with the professor.

In a press conference, Sony Pat Police Department DCP Narendra Singh said the arrest was based on a complaint filed by Renu Bhatia, chairman of the Women’s Commission. According to police, Professor Mahamudabad failed to respond to the subpoena issued by the Women’s Commission, prompting the commission to take legal action.


Ahsoka University also issued a statement saying: “We have realized that Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad was detained by the police earlier today. We are determining the details of the case. The university will continue to work with police and local authorities to fully carry out arrests in the investigation in the investigation. Nepal nationals.
