Human Rights Forum urges Andhra Pradesh government to compensate late farmers

The Human Rights Forum (HRF) Rythu Swarajya Vedika (RSV) and BC Welfare Association (BCWA) have called upon the State Government to implement GO (MS) No.43 that provides financial assistance of ₹7,00,000 to the family of Balleda Narasimha Murthy (58), a farmer of Peddhakhojiria village in Kanchili mandal in the Uddhanam region of Srikakulam.
Narasimha Murthy ended his life on April 9, 2025 as he suffered the pressure to repay the debt he incurred due to successive crop failures.
A six-person HRF-RSV and BCWA team recently visited Peddhakojiria in Kanchili Mandal and interacted with the late farmer’s wife, Ms. Neelaveni, and their son Praveen. The team also interacted with local farmers and residents of Makarampuram Village on the ongoing agricultural crisis in the Uddhanam area.
According to the Human Resources Authority, Narasimha Murthy cultivated cashews and coconuts on his own land and rented eight acres of land. He paid the lease amount in advance. “Narasimha Murthy was denied access to sufficient institutional credit and was forced to borrow money from private sources at high interest rates to cover farm-related expenses,” the Human Resources Administration said.
“With less rainfall for several years, coupled with his coconut crop being destroyed by pests, he was forced into deep debt. He was under conventional and ongoing pressure from lenders who demanded repayment. He ended his life on April 9,” he ended his life on April 9. ”
The Human Resources Authority claims that although more than five weeks have passed since Narasimha Murthy’s death, the zoning verification committee of three members led by the Taxation Bureau Department Officials (RDO) has not visited Peddha Khojiria for inquiries. “Committee No. 43 requires the RDO-led committee to visit the village, submit relevant details to collectors within one week of death and make forward proposals. In fact, the family has not received financial or otherwise assistance from the government. This negligent approach defeated the purpose of GO 43,” HRF said.
“In the past year, five people have died (farmers) in the northern Andhra region, including Narasimha Murthy. However, according to the assistance from Go 43, no family has received assistance.”
The HR Management Company asked the earliest three-member zoning committee to visit Peddha Khojiria for proper inquiries and ensure justice for the Narasimha Murthy family as presented in Go 43.
The fact-finding team that visited Narasimha Murthy’s family includes G.Balu, RSV State Federation, KV Jagannadha Rao, HRF State President K. Anuradha, HRF Publication Editor, K. Venkat Rao, member of the Regional Executive Committee (EC) of HRF Srikakakulam. VS Krishna, member of the HRF Andhra Pradesh & Telangana Coordination Committee and B. Dhilli Rao, Secretary-General of the Governor of BCWA.
