The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted thunderstorms and heavy rain in several areas of West Bengal on May 19, 2025 until May 22.

The IMD said the east-west trough from Punjab to North Bangladesh and favorable wind patterns and moisture intrusion in the Bay of Bengal will lead to increased rainfall.

It said heavy rains may take place in the North Bangladesh region of Darjeeling, Kalippen, Jalpuguri, Alipdur, Kuchi Bell, Malda and North Dina Ipur on different days from May 22.

IMD said thunderstorms with gusts of wind could occur in several areas of South Bengal, including in Prulia, Simid Napol, Jalgragram, Bankra, Kurhidabad, Nadia and Siberdwan.

It said that heavy to heavy rain occurred in one or two places in the Northern Dinapur district of northern Bangladesh at 8:30 am within 24 hours (May 19, 2025).

Raganj, the North Dinapur Regional Headquarters, recorded 187 mm of rain, while Canning, in South Bangladesh, recorded 53 mm of rain during this period, according to the Meteorological Bureau data.
